Task details:

Your task is to create a 4 to 6 lesson teaching sequence for an area of primary science (Foundation

to Year 6). The focus area of science is to be taken from:

• Biological Sciences

• Earth and Space Sciences

• Physical Sciences or

• Chemical Sciences

You will incorporate the Science Inquiry Skills throughout your science lessons and sequence and you will provide explicit discussion about how the lessons progressively build on each other in terms of both the science content and the science inquiry skills.

Introduction (approx. 300 words):

Initially provide an introduction to your lesson sequence providing discussion of the context and importance of your focus science concept. Include any common misconceptions students might have.

The 5E’s (approx. 300 words per ‘E’ = 1500 words)

Use the Sub-headings of the 5Es to structure the discussion of your learning sequence. This may mean you have 5 sub-headings (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate) or you may choose to combine one or more of the 5Es within your subheadings. Whilst the 5Es are not necessarily ‘linear’ in how they ‘play out’ within a classroom, for the sake of practicality for this assignment, we ask you to approach your write up this way.

Underneath each of your subheadings provide the following:

• How does the phase of the sequence link an Australian/ Victorian curriculum descriptor?

• Provide three ‘key questions’ for each phase of the sequence and discuss why they are fundamental to ensuring development of the focus concept.

• What pedagogical choices and strategies have you taken and why have you taken them? e.g.

Have you incorporated multiple representations of the science concept? Why?

• Would you group your students in a certain way for this phase of the science sequence?

Why?

• Which pedagogical ‘tools’ have you used (e.g. KWLH (What I think I know, What I want to know, What I have learned, How have I learned),POE (Predict, Observe, Explain)? Why?

• Clearly describe how digital technologies have been integrated within your sequence and justify your pedagogical choices.

• Provide a brief discussion of how you have ensured cohesiveness and continuity between each of the lesson phases within your sequence.

Conclusion (approx. 200 words)

Write a brief concluding statement describing anticipated issues with implementation of your lesson sequence and how you might overcome these issues.
